BROOKE PLAND
Copywriter & Journalist
ABOUT
I'm Brooke, a Northern California–based journalist, editor, and communications professional specializing in meaningful and engaging storytelling. A graduate of the University of California, Santa Barbara, with a degree in Communication and minors in Journalism and French, I've written for digital publications and brands across the news, travel, and lifestyle spaces. I’m an experienced copywriter, researcher, and reporter, with a background in both short-form and long-form journalism as well as content writing tailored to a variety of diverse audiences.
From my copywriting and research work at a leading women’s travel publication with a multi-million annual readership to my feature reporting spanning profiles, current events, and social justice, I am passionate about crafting compelling, informative, and inspiring stories which resonate with readers across genre, generation, and geography. In particular, I’m drawn to stories investigating identity, culture, relationships, and the complexities of modern life — themes which I explore in my personal essays on Substack. Whether reporting, editing, or telling stories of my own, my goal is to connect with and serve readers of all kinds via honest, principled writing.
When I'm not writing, I love exploring new countries and cultures; some of my favorite adventures yet have included practicing my French during a four-month stay in Paris and spending two summers teaching English in the Balkans. Day to day, you’ll find me enjoying my own city of Sacramento — likely sipping a decaf cappuccino and diving into a new book (preferably historical fiction or a rom-com).
